Greatest marathoner ever Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won London marathon in men’s category in a time of 02:04:17 hrs. Eliud Kipchoge, The Olympic champion, starts beautifully and was in full control to break the world record & Two-hour marathon mark but unable to maintain the speed over the last few miles.
He was also crowned as World Marathon Majors champion with 50 points. Kipchoge won his third consecutive WMM title after winning the Berlin Marathon 2017 and the London Marathon 2018.
Mo Farah, Double gold Olympic champion, finished third in a time of 02:06:21 hrs. Mo Farah became the fastest marathon runner in British history after beating the record of 02:07:13 set by Steve Jones in 1985. He faced two mix-ups with water bottles, he said that “The drinks stations were confusing. The staff were helpful at the end but at the beginning they were trying to take a picture rather than giving me the drink.”
The women’s race was won by Kenyan Vivian Cheruiyot, she crossed the line in 02:18:31 hrs. Mary Keitany failed to challenge Paul Radcliffe’s record and finished 5th, though her start was very good.
