At a press conference in central London on Monday, Chicago Marathon race director Carey Pinkowski announced this year’s race will feature Tirunesh Dibaba, gold medalist in the women’s 10,000m at both the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Olympics.
The course record in Chicago is 2:17:18, set by Great Britain’s Paula Radcliffe (Fastest Women of the world) in October, 2002. On a similarly flat course, Tirunesh Dibaba finished second at April’s London Marathon 2017, running in 2:17:56. She must be aiming the course record of Chicago.
She has impressed in her two marathons to date, clocking 2:20:35 on her debut to finish third in London, 2014 and second there earlier this year (2017) in 2:17:56, which made her the third fastest woman of all time at the distance. She also take the silver medal over 10,000m at the IAAF World Championships 2017 in London.
However she will face tough competition from Kenya’s Florence Kiplagat – winner of 2016 Chicago Marathon.
We’ll have all the answers in next 2-3 days 🙂 Wishing the best of luck to “Baby Faced Destroyer” – Tirunesh Dibaba.
